Interview mit Prof. John Williams, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research an der University of Adelaide

Warum ein PhD an der University of Adelaide ein perfekter Einstieg in eine internationale Forschungskarriere ist, darüber haben wir mit Prof. John Williams, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, an der University of Adelaide gesprochen.

Why would you recommend German students a PhD in Australia?
An international experience at a research intensive university provides the perfect platform for emerging researchers. The capacity to work across borders with others who share the research challenges is rewarding both professionally and personally.
How important is international research experience for young researchers in general?
The ability to be exposed to new ideas within a different cultural context helps young researchers to adapt and develop their own research. It is something that I would encourage all higher degree students to consider at some point in their careers.
What do you like about supervising international PhD candidates?

In addition to the ability to discuss comparative perspectives on common questions, there is the added interest of explaining the local culture and hearing about the diverse background of our international students.
Why do you encourage international research students to come to University of Adelaide?

The University of Adelaide is one of Australia’s most research-intensive institutions, the University is a destination of choice for highly talented researchers, students, government and industry partners.
In addition to the great resources of the University of Adelaide, the city is a fantastic place to live and enjoy. In 2017 Adelaide was ranked again as the world’s fifth most liveable city. With the annual festivals and proximity to the coast and hills Adelaide is a place where international students can research and explore Australia.
